History

The Boone-Turner Scholarship Corporation (BSTC) was established in 1995. It is a non-profit, tax-exempt foundation promoted by the Epsilon Iota Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. BTSC is named in honor of William H. Boone, Jr. and W. Lowell Turner, two Alpha Men, who dedicated over sixty combined years educating the youth of the Hampton Roads area.

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc has a long and distinguished history of involvement, achievement, and leadership in inspiring young individuals to reach high and strive for excellence in all aspects of their lives. Alpha’s philosophy is that a well-trained mind is the one vehicle that will supply our nation with a strong nucleus of productive citizens.

The Go to High School, Go to College initiated by Alpha Phi Alpha in 1929, counsels youth on the importance of a post secondary education and professions that promote advancement.

The Boone-Turner Scholarship Corporation’s scholarships are provided by joint effort among Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. the business community and the many individuals who donate their time, money and efforts to fund these scholarships.

Purpose

The purpose of the Boone-Turner Scholarship Corporation is to encourage youth to reach for the stars and therefore becoming all they can be.
